The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and Kao Corporation are offering an Industrial PhD position within the Industrial Doctorates programme of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Project description
The research project aims to develop and validate advanced analytical methodologies for the detection, quantification, and monitoring of trace compounds in surfactant-based products that may pose potential risks to human health or the environment. These substances may include synthesis impurities, degradation by-products, or emerging contaminants.
The PhD candidate will apply state-of-the-art instrumental techniques such as high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), liquid and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS, GC-MS), and innovative sample preparation methods. The project will also investigate the occurrence and evolution of these substances throughout the product life cycle (production, use, and degradation), taking into account the regulatory demands of the cosmetics and detergent sectors.
Candidate profile
– Degree in Chemistry or related fields, and an official Master’s in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or equivalent.
– Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Catalan or Spanish.
– Additional training in Analytical Chemistry or Separation Techniques (optional courses, Master’s or Postgraduate programmes) will be positively valued.
– A recommendation letter is encouraged and will be considered in the selection process.
